Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player
What is the new and improved Oppo BDP-93 all about? Well let's
see as we go over some of the highlights of this well decorated brand
of Blu-ray Disc Players.
We will start off by letting you know that the Oppo BDP-93 is the
successor to the award winning BDP-83. So that should let you know
right off that the bones of this latest offering are strong and steady.
Some of the new things to highlight are features not seen in the
previous player. These include, online media streaming (through Netflix and Blockbusters
on Demand), in-home network media sharing, dual HDMI
outputs and improved build quality. All of this comes to you with a
small price tag.
The overall design size is similar to the BDP-83 but the look is
different. They included brushed aluminum face plate with a flush
mounted disc tray and flush buttons. This enhances the over all look
and smoothly infuses itself into the overall landscape.
Things to mention here about the tray is that its completely
redesigned. Now retracts fully into the face of the player with quick
and quiet motion. This is an upgrade from the BDP-83.
There are 2 digital displays next to the tray. The main display left of
the tray shows track and disc timings while the aux display shows icons
and disc info. The dimmable displays are subtle, useful and
informative. There is also a front USB port that is easy to access but
cleverly concealed from view.

What Experts Say About Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray
Some upgrades that the BDP-93 have seen are disc loading. This version is more sturdy and more quite. The tray is just about hidden inside the brushed aluminum face plate. Also the buttons are flush to give it a unique look.
The video quality features has everything the you would expect from Oppo. The video processing is done with the Marvell Kyoto-G2 processor with the second generation Qdeo technology. This gives video noise reduction, intelligent color, compression artifact reduction, detail and contrast. See Specification and Features for more detail.
The audio connections for the BDP-93 include dual HDMI Outputs, Digital Audio: Coaxial and Optical and Analog Audio OUtputs: 7.1-channels. One audio output that is missing from the BDP-93 is the dedicated stereo outputs. Which on the BDP-83 weren't used that much.
The BDP-93 is a universal Blu-Ray Player, so it is capable of playing all disc formats; even SACD and DVD-Audio discs. Supported media and files for the BDP-93 include: DVD, audio CD, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, MKV, DivX, MP4, AVCHD, WAV and FLAC files. These files can be played back on the BDP-93 via the two USB Ports or the eSATA Port located on the back. eSATA Ports allows for whole hard drives to be connected.
Along with 3D capability, networking and online streaming services are among the biggest additions to the BDP-93. The wireless internet connection makes for easy access to online services such as Netflix, CinemaNow and Blockbuster on Demand. Oppo is constantly working on bringing more online partners on-board and should become available soon.
Overall the new 3D Universal Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray Player has done something remarkable. It has given us an upgraded Blu-Ray Player, with major improvements and added features, without increasing the price. Like the Oppo BDP-83 before it, the BDP-93 seems like the benchmark for all other Blu-Ray players to be judge by.
THE CONS: Lacking any dedicated stereo outputs. While there is a work around for this, consumers maybe put off by this. Even though it is cheap when compared to the other higher-end Blu-Ray Players, the $499 price tag is expensive.
THE PROS: The Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray Player is not only a Universal player capable of playing all know discs types, but it has 3D capability, Wi-Fi, DLNA, eSATA port, Online Streaming Services such as Netflix and Blockbuster on Demand and dual HDMI Outputs. The player has excellent video and audio features providing the best possible images and sound.
Top 5 Objective Reviews On The Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray
#1 Truly Impressive Video and Audio
First thoughts: This is a well packaged machine with subdued highlights on the front panel, clearly labeled inputs and outputs on the back panel, and an informative and useful display. Drop in a DVD-A disc, for instance, such as the one within the Lord Of The Rings complete soundtrack sets, and the front panel informs you that you're listening to a DVD-A. There's no confusion, as there can be with other components, as to whether you might be mistakenly listening to the standard stereo track and creating surround from that. The intuitive setup panels, accessed via the well designed and internally lit remote, quickly allow you to adjust your playback desires - you can listen to the multi-speaker output from the DVD-A or the mixed-down stereo version at the touch of a button.
And I've started out with audio discussion for a reason. Many of us with high end CD players still have an extra box in our audio stack; finding a DVD player, Bluray or otherwise, that can play back a standard CD with sufficient quality to allow removal of the CD player has been a difficult task. Most reviewers of DVD players seem to ignore the stereo audio component entirely. Here, you not only have the ability to listen to DVD-A versions of audio sources when available, but you have a real reason to disconnect your CD player for good. I have one of Sony's wonderful ES models from years ago which until now has been unparalleled by any reasonably priced component. The staging of the audio, though, is really improved on the Oppo over other DVD players and is at least on a par with the Sony ES CD player, if not somewhat better. Taking, for example, "Blackbirds" from the new remastered Beatles White Album, Paul is clearly staged just to the left of my right speaker. His vocals are pure and clear to an exquisite extent (sometimes to a fault as you can now clearly hear a sibilant s in the lyric - a fault of the microphones of the era - that is somewhat muffled on other equipment). Orchestral and pop music alike are impressive and clear. Of course, now you can listen not only to standard commercial CD's, but also to CD's containing .mp3 or .flac libraries (among other alternatives). In those latter situations, your TV will function as a display, showing the titles of the entire disc's content and allowing you to easily pick your desired track.

#2 A truly universal
player that cuts no corners,
Is it worth it to upgrade this player just to get the BDP-93's streaming capabilities (which are limited to Netflix and Blockbuster now, but will be expanded shortly)? My answer is an unqualified yes. Why? Because you not only get streaming, but much more. The BDP-93's video processing, including its upconversion of standard DVDs, is even better than that of the BDP-83. The BDP-93 also has built-in wireless, although I opted to connect through an Ethernet cable for better speed and stability. The BDP-93's disc transport is more solid and stable than that of its older brother (although, to be honest, I never had problems with the 83's transport). Support for SACD and DVD-Audio remain, (see Specs) to say nothing of numerous other formats like HDCD. Finally, there is its 3D capability -- not something I'm interested in right now, but should I decide later to go this route, my Blu-Ray player is ready.
You can get a Blu-Ray player with network streaming for a lot less than the cost of the BDP-93, but............................<<<Click Here To Read Full Review>>>
#3 Best High End
Blu-Ray Player for $499.99 Hands Down!,
I finally got my new BDP93 yesterday and set it up in a matter of a few minutes. The OSD (On-Screen Display)was so user friendly and the Easy Set up took me through the most basic set up steps. Oppo really pays attention to the fine details from the way they package the player to the beatiful UI on the set up screens and Home Page. Most Blu-Ray Players have a UI that is not presented in Hi-Def clarity. Yes, a small detail but shows the companies obsession and passion to being the best.
I don't have a 3D TV set yet so I cannot cooment on 3D quality, but I am impressed that Oppo included 2 HDMI Outputs for those that dont have a 1.4v HDMI Recievier so that sound can be directed to the reciever and a 3D Video signal can be sent to the 3D TV Display. You will always want your Video Signal coming from the HDMI 1 port as that one takes advantage of the advanced QDEO Video Processor.
Setting up the Wireless Connection to my Dual Band N Router was a breeze, no problems encountered here.
The Video on Blu Rays was OMG! and the DVD Upscale using the DNR and Sharpness Settings was also OMG!Hands down the best video ouput I have seen for upscaled DVD's. Star Wars IV was beautiful, I think as good as many streaming supposed HD sites with the exception of VUDU which is 1080P streaming. My Samsung 63" Plasma has never looked better!
I am awaiting a few SACD's (see Features) to see how good the audio processor is for Multi-Channel Sound. Movie Audio on Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio was spot on excellent. Finally a component that is worthy of my Yamaha RX-V1900 and Klipsch Speakers.
The build of the BDP93 is solid, it just says High End Component. The Disk Tray is Smooth and quiet as well as the playback. The player doesnt even get warm. It also has a RS232 Port for Home Installers setting up High End Systems.

#4 Oppo 93
Manual - One of the best manual on any product I ever purchased. It was clear, precise and well organized. I downloaded it from the OPPO site so I was pretty prepared for the questions I had before it arrived, highly recommended.
Audio - Nothing short of awesome. My older AV receiver does not have HDMI so I connected it thru the 7.1 analog ports. Sound was clear with excellent separation that I never heard before on my system. I was ready to thro out my AV and speakers (player to AV by optical) and replace them first before upgrading the player, but thankfully when the 93 came out decided on that 1st. Easy setup
Video - BD loads fast with superb picture at 1080P/24. I have not gone thru complete setup yet but I don't know how I can improve, I'll probably screw it up! LOL
EZSetup- Fast & Easy..........Nothing more to say
Media tested - Blu-Ray & CD only so far
Net - Easy Internet connect, matter of fact once I connected the Ethernet cable it auto connected DHCP to my router and informed me a `New software version was available for download' which took only a few minutes to download & install. I did not try wireless yet.

#5 No doubts, the best
Blu ray player now and for years to come.
I will say that I do agree with all prior reviewers who rated this product 5 stars for both video and audio quality. So please read those reviews for technical qualities and their experiences, I will not bore you repeating those details with different words here.I will however add these few lines....
1. Have you asked yourself why the OPPO BDP 83 and OPPO BDP 93 have the highest retail RESALE value in electronics? This is not the norm in the retail sales of electronics, which we know depreciate in values faster than cars. For no other reason but that, let it be your motivation to invest in this player. You will have an entertaining device that appreciates in retail value with time with the added benefit of the best video and audio production it will give you.I was one of the fortunate folks to have bought the OPPO BDP 83 before the special edition (SE)version.I am pleasantly amazed at how much it has retained its retail value with time.
2.Having watched both DVD/Blu ray films with various devices from major brands as earlier said, this is the best you can get for the price. If you can not afford this player at $499.00, the device nearest in picture quality production is the Sony PS3 which comes at a lower price but then you will compromise on the retail resale value. So if you can not afford this player, your other bet will be the Sony PS3 which also has excellent 3D and Netflix streaming features.
