Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Okay, so I had been eying the 83 for a long time, but couldn't muster
up the courage to spend $[...] on a blue ray player considering you can
get them for about $[...] bucks now, but finally in about September I
decided to pull the trigger. I was surprised when I saw the price had
gone up, and then quickly realized it had been discontinued with
possibly a new model coming up. I was quite excited, so I have been
waiting for sometime and finally got my 93 last week.
First I have an old receiver, no HDMI, but otherwise pretty good. Placed my Oppo in place of my old DVD player, hooked up the HDMI to my Samsung LED 55 TV (no 3D, last years model), hooked up the analog audio cables to the receiver and started testing. Something didn't sound right, so I started to look at my setup. For 5 or so years I have had this old setup, never noticed anything odd, but when I plugged the 93 in, the sound wasn't right. Wouldn't you believe my setup of speakers into my receivers was wrong. I basically had my surround left and right going through about the same input (A/B surround confusion on my end). But I never noticed it, until I put the Oppo in, as the sound is so distinct from everywhere. Anyways, corrected that issue and oh wow, the sound is incredible, with BD and DVD. The up conversion, as documented, is incredible, people ask if I am watching BD when I have a DVD in, I had Toy Story 3 in there, and some friends could not tell the difference.
The wireless is a piece of cake to setup, plug it into the back, and then enter my password, took a few seconds and it was set up. The "My Network (DLNA)" functionality works great. I have been using the DLNA on my Samsung LED TV, which really was my first experience with it, well the 93 blows it out of the water, I mean its not even close. The 93 is so fast browsing through my collections and it has all the functionality you would expect in a video/music viewer, but my Samsung does not.
Needless to say that I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the 93 to anybody.
